ABOUT OUR SILVER At Seres Gifts we are passionate about quality and craftsmanship and this is never more evident than with our silver collection. Everything we offer is solid silver and our hallmark is your guarantee of excellence. The history of hallmarking dates back to 1300 and the original aim of the system remains unchanged; the protection of the public against fraud and of the trader against unfair competition. Indeed, hallmarking is one of the oldest forms of consumer protection. Hallmarking of precious metals is still a legal requirement. There are four Assay Offices in the UK all of which test to the same exacting standards. At Seres Gifts we use the Birmingham Assay Office, which has become the largest Assay Office in the world. Its symbol of an anchor is an assurance of worth. WHAT MAKES A HALLMARK? There are three compulsory elements to every hallmark: · the sponsor or maker?s mark · the guaranteed standard of fineness · the Assay Office at which the article was tested and hallmarked There is an optional mark which may show the year in which the article was tested and marked. At Seres Gifts our sponsor mark is shown as SG and our Assay office is shown as the Anchor of Birmingham. WHAT ABOUT RHODIUM PLATING? You will notice that a number of our silver items are described as being Rhodium plated. Rhodium is a precious metal and is a member of the platinum family. Rhodium electroplating is used to provide a surface that will resist scratches and tarnishing.
