The sun shone on the marina. Boats bobbed playfully on the glistening water. But I wasn’t looking at them. No. I was too busy looking down. I was mesmerised by the huge chain that was lying on the ground. An old anchor chain strung along the pavement. No-one else was taking a blind bit of notice, but for me, it was marvellous!
For here was my necklace. Here was my bracelet! Well, sort of.
I say again and again to my customers that good design is timeless and that influences for design can come from anywhere and everywhere. Here was the proof. The style of link used for the anchor chain has been around for ages and is nothing new. But with clever rethinking and superb craftsmanship its influence is used to create something of true and lasting beauty.
Silver by Design
Take Gucci, for example. In the 1950’s Gucci used a nautical theme on some of its original sports bags and gifts. Furthermore, it designed the now infamous Gucci Marina Chain jewellery collection.
The Gucci Marina Bracelet is a perfect example of how a common-place anchor chain can be re-thought. It weighs approximately 17.9g and is a beautiful creation that is loved by many.
Weigh Up the Difference!
As you would expect from Seres, the weight of the Anchor Link necklace and bracelet is fabulous. The bracelet weighs around 37g and measures approximately 18cm or 7″, so is perfect for the smaller wrist.
The necklace is significantly longer. It measures approximately 80cm or 31″ and weighs a reassuring 93g. It really is a statement piece. So if you like a long necklace, this is the piece for you!
So, if you think a rusty old anchor chain holds no attraction, its time to think again!
