This year is the 20th anniversary of the Maldon and District’s Action in the Autumn Gift Fair, a key fund raising event in the Action Medical Research diary. Here, Sophie Davis from Seres Gifts, tells you everything you need to know about it.
Save the Date!
Tuesday, 2nd October 2018 is must-have a date for your diary! It is when this year’s Action in the Autumn Gift Fair takes place. It brings together over 40 independent retailers to offer you everything you can think of. From delicious cheeses and oils to clothing and luxury gifts, the Action Medical Research Team and all the stallholders are waiting to welcome you!
Wow! What a setting!
Layer Marney Towers is the tallest Tudor Gatehouse in the country. It dates back to the reign of Henry VIII and the 1520s so it really is a unique and fabulous setting for this wonderful gift fair. Many of the stalls are located on the historic first floor which is accessed via a spiral staircase. There is, however, use of a lift for those who aren’t feeling quite so energetic!
So what can you expect?
A warm welcome, to be sure! The Maldon & District Branch of Action Medical Research is there to greet you and offer you free tea or coffee and biscuits on arrival. They also provide delicious lunches, so why not plan to make a day of it with some friends.
Independent stallholders come from far and wide to offer you an amazing selection. From delicious delicacies to stocking fillers. From the latest fashions for you to the newest ideas for your home, there really is something for everyone. In a time when the high-street is looking boringly predictable, the Action in the Autumn Gift Fair really is a wonderful opportunity to buy something different.
How is the money raised?
Each stallholder has paid a fee to display at the fair. Additionally, they give a further 10% of takings to the charity. Entrance costs £5 and includes free tea or coffee and biscuits. Furthermore, lunches and additional refreshments all help raise much needed funds.
Over the last 20 years, the event has raised over £170,000 for research into helping sick babies, children and young people.
How can you help?
There are many ways you can help Action Medical Research and this event. First of all, put the date in your diary and come along and support it! Bring some friends, have a delicious lunch and make a day of it. Take the opportunity to start your Christmas shopping early. No panic, no crushing crowds, no battling for a car-park space. You don’t very often get the chance to say that about Christmas shopping!
Spread the word! The more people who know about the Action in the Autumn Gift Fair, the better. Like and share their Facebook page, invite your friends, tell people about it. It is amazing how sometimes these events can be on someone’s door-step and they don’t actually know about it! Despite all efforts on sign-posting and promotion, there is always scope for more publicity. So don’t stay quiet. Help us spread the word!
Volunteers are invaluable and always welcome. If you are interesting in helping Action Medical Research raise money and awareness, please contact them at the Action Medical Research website.
